Meeting the great Prof Kypros Nicolaides

It was such an honour and personally very meaningful to meet Professor Kypros Nicolaides, the father of Fetal Medicine. His pioneering work has revolutionised maternal-fetal care and saved the lives of countless babies around the world.
From developing life-saving screening techniques for conditions like preeclampsia and chromosomal abnormalities, to his groundbreaking role in shaping how we use progesterone to prevent preterm birth— Professor Nicolaides’ legacy is having created several pillars of modern obstetrics.
It was a privilege to be able to share with him our progress with Callavid®, where we’re working to improve patient outcomes with a more effective approach to delivering vaginal progesterone. To speak with the very pioneer whose research laid the foundation for this was incredibly humbling 😌
But beyond the scientific and clinical brilliance— highest OBGYN H-index in the world (over 200, and over 170,000 citations 💥)— I was so inspired by his commitment to giving back. Through his The Fetal Medicine Foundation, over £45 million has been donated to train more than 1,000 doctors from 50 countries 🌍. And yet, he was so generous with his time for a mere mortal, simply trying to make an incomparable tiny dent in the world.
To learn more about Professor Nicolaides, I highly recommend watching his feature in The Surgeon’s Cut on Netflix. It’s a moving portrait of brilliance, purpose, and humanity in medicine. 🩺
